Otro año más del Sónar, y otro nuevo universo por descubrir. Este será uno enfocado a redescubrir y entender de nuevo a grandes clásicos que en 30 años han sido sin duda piedras angulares de lo que es esta institución, pues al final el festival ha tenido la capacidad de mantenerse fiel a un proyecto de curaduría, el cual entiende los nuevos talentos, pero sobretodo valora los clásicos. En momentos de tantas modas pasajeras y festivales hyper-corporativos donde todo tiende a parecerse, medirse por likes. Tampoco es el tipo de evento en cual el público siente la necesidad de “disfrazarse” para ir a escuchar buena música; el Sónar se mantiene fiel a su esencia.

Empieza así, con ‘Music:Response’, la instalación de los Chemical Brothers en casa Batlló. Algo tan nuevo para el Sónar como para los Chemical, lo cual nos llevará a otro mundo, pues no es absurdo pensar que los Brothers han sido a la música lo que Gaudí fue a la arquitectura. Parecen sobrar los motivos para no perderse esta prometedora instalación. Así como sobran los motivos para no dejar de ver a AIR presentar en vivo su mítico álbum Moon Safari de 1998, ese que en gran parte determinó un camino abstracto de la música electrónica desde su debut. Ahora, y por primera vez, más allá de sus únicos y casi irreales sintetizadores, en esta edición tendremos la oportunidad de verlo live con toda la banda. Una experiencia de la cual se estructura y define ese hermosamente indescriptible viaje que es el Moon Safari.

This year’s journey begins with ‘Music:Response’, an installation by The Chemical Brothers at Casa Batlló. This innovative collaboration is as groundbreaking for Sónar as it is for The Chemical Brothers. It promises to transport us to another world, akin to how the Brothers have impacted music in a way that mirrors Gaudí’s influence on architecture. There are ample reasons not to miss this promising installation, just as there are to see AIR perform their iconic 1998 album, Moon Safari, live. This album, which charted an abstract path for electronic music since its debut, will be presented with a full band for the first time, enhancing the beautifully indescribable journey that is Moon Safari.

Hablando de sintetizadores, en el Sónar de Noche se estarán presentando los épicos hermanos Octave One representantes exquisitos del del Detroit Techno; instituciones imperdibles. Pues así, es y ha sido la escena de esta ciudad, un pilar de la curaduría de este festival. Desde Richie Hawtin que por fortuna sigue siendo ese gran clásico del Sónar de Noche y en esta ocasión presentándose con su nuevo Live Dex Efx and XOX; en el Sónar de Día la cuota de Detroit estará a cargo de Stacey Hotwaxx Hale en su B2B con DJ Paulette, un exquisito VS Manchester – Detroit.

Speaking of synthesizers, Octave One, the legendary representatives of Detroit Techno, will be performing at Sónar by Night. These pioneers, much like the city’s scene, are pillars of the festival’s curation. Richie Hawtin, a perennial classic at Sónar by Night, will present his new Live Dex Efx and XOX show. During Sónar by Day, the Detroit vibe will continue with Stacey «Hotwaxx» Hale going B2B with DJ Paulette in a delectable Manchester-Detroit showdown.

Será el momento perfecto para saltar a Floating Points quienes tocarán esa mismo día en el Sónar Car. El proyecto de Samuel Shepard, es de por sí una espacie de homenaje contemporáneo a AIR y al mismo “Moon Safari”. Y así, lo “viejo” y lo “nuevo” se van entrelazando; pues, no es menor que Laurent Garnier haya vuelto, luego de siete años a esta que a sido su casa: el Village del Sónar de Día. Complementando ese mismo día se presentará Danny Tanaglia en el Sónar Car. Una catedra electrónica de pilares europeos y estadunidenses que se plantaron de manera, no menor en esos comienzos del internet masivo.

This will be the perfect moment to dive into Floating Points, who will play on the same day at Sónar Car. Samuel Shepherd’s project is a contemporary homage to AIR and Moon Safari. The “old” and the “new” seamlessly intertwine, as evidenced by Laurent Garnier‘s return to his home turf after seven years, performing at the Sónar by Day Village. That same day, Danny Tenaglia will bring his electronic mastery to Sónar Car, representing a fusion of European and American pillars of the electronic scene that emerged during the dawn of the internet era.

En esta reseña hay muchos nuevos nombres, que no estamos mencionando. Somos conscientes, pues toda la idea es entenderlos en vivo. Por esto estaremos en el Sónar: ESTUDIANDO. Ya les contaremos cómo nos fue con: Pablopablo, Judeline, Folamur, Jasss, Olof Dreijer y Aisha Devi. Esos son el tipo de momentos que uno tiene y entiende en el Sónar: música desconocida y música muy conocida; simplemente BUENA, que además viene en esos sound systems… El Sónar 2024 será épico, sin la pretensiones de querer serlo.
