Cada ciudad arma su semana de diseño de manera distinta. Nueva York no tiene un centro ni un recorrido fijo, NYC x DESIGN se reparte por toda la ciudad. Desde 2012, el festival ha crecido hasta convocar más de 163,000 personas, un tercio de las cuales viaja desde fuera de la ciudad. Del 14 al 20 de mayo, la programación toca los cinco boroughs: estudios, instituciones, ferias, showrooms, espacios públicos.
Each city shapes its design week differently. New York has no single center or fixed route—NYC x DESIGN unfolds across the entire city. Since 2012, the festival has grown to attract more than 163,000 people, a third of whom travel from outside the city. From May 14 to 20, programming spans all five boroughs: studios, institutions, fairs, showrooms, and public spaces.
Una de las cosas que distingue al festival es que no parte de una definición estrecha del diseño. Arte, colección, ingeniería, tecnología, arquitectura, todas tienen lugar dentro del programa, y eso lo hace relevante para industrias que normalmente no comparten agenda. El tema de este año, Design Connects Us, apunta justo ahí: a los cruces entre disciplinas, comunidades y contextos que el diseño hace posibles. Esos cruces se leen también en la distribución del festival. Lo que pasa en SoHo no es lo que pasa en Harlem o en Brownsville, el diseño aparece de formas distintas según el contexto, a veces ligado a dinámicas comerciales, a veces desde preguntas sobre espacio público o comunidad.
One of the festival’s defining traits is that it doesn’t rely on a narrow definition of design. Art, collectibles, engineering, technology, and architecture all have a place within the program, making it relevant to industries that don’t share the same agenda. This year’s theme, Design Connects Us, speaks directly to that—highlighting the intersections between disciplines, communities, and contexts that design makes possible. These intersections are also reflected in the festival’s geography. What happens in SoHo is not the same as what happens in Harlem or Brownsville; design takes on different forms depending on the context, sometimes tied to commercial dynamics, other times shaped by questions around public space or community.
La semana arranca el 14 de mayo con la fiesta oficial de apertura en Halo Twenty Eight y se extiende por toda la ciudad durante siete días. En Times Square, el Design Pavilion by Lexus propone una instalación inmersiva que cruza diseño, artesanía, arte y tecnología con programación diaria abierta a cualquiera. En The Seaport, SHINE, curada por Harry Allen en colaboración con COOL HUNTING, reúne a setenta diseñadores en torno al objeto luminoso. Oui Design lleva el diálogo entre las comunidades creativas francesa y estadounidense a exposiciones y estudios abiertos por distintos puntos de la ciudad.
The week begins on May 14 with the official opening party at Halo Twenty Eight and extends across the city for seven days. In Times Square, the Design Pavilion by Lexus presents an immersive installation that brings together design, craft, art, and technology, with daily programming open to all. In The Seaport, SHINE—curated by Harry Allen in collaboration with COOL HUNTING—brings together seventy designers around the luminous object. Oui Design continues the dialogue between French and American creative communities through exhibitions and open studios across the city.
En paralelo, el Keynote Program trae voces de distintas partes del mundo, los Salon Series abren espacio para conversaciones más directas entre profesionales, y el Friday Night on the Town activa showrooms en todos los distritos de diseño en simultáneo. Las ferias anclan la semana desde el lado del mercado: Afternoon Light con más de 80 expositores e ICFF en el Javits Center. El Future Now AI Summit en Cornell Tech desplaza la conversación hacia inteligencia artificial y procesos de producción contemporáneos. El festival cierra en DUMBO, con fiesta de clausura en uno de los barrios con mayor densidad creativa de Brooklyn.
In parallel, the Keynote Program brings voices from around the world, the Salon Series creates space for more direct conversations between professionals, and Friday Night on the Town activates showrooms across all design districts simultaneously. The fairs anchor the week from a market perspective: Afternoon Light with more than 80 exhibitors, and ICFF at the Javits Center. The Future Now AI Summit at Cornell Tech shifts the conversation toward artificial intelligence and contemporary production processes. The festival closes in DUMBO, with a closing party in one of Brooklyn’s most densely creative neighborhoods.
